Sustainability shaped the renovation of our cottages from the start. Wherever possible, we reused original materials from the farm buildings, incorporated reclaimed bricks and even used timber from an oak tree on Clare’s parents’ farm.
Inside the cottages, we continued that local, thoughtful approach with soft furnishings and artwork by local designer Jan Jay and wood-fired hot tubs using recycled timber off-cuts from a local merchant.
Continuing the theme of sustainability throughout the properties was essential right from the get-go.
This began with our sympathetic renovations of the redundant farm buildings. Where possible we reused all of the original materials and when this was not possible, we used reclaimed bricks and even an oak tree from my parents farm to provide some of the timber.
When it came to interiors we kept up the local focus, with all of the soft furnishing and artwork hand printed and finished by local designer Jan Jay.
All of our hot tubs are wood fired and all of our timber is recycled off cuts from a local timber merchant. We actively encourage our guests to grab a jug and water our plants with their waste water too.
Supporting local Worcestershire and Herefordshire businesses has become a big part of our sustainability journey. Our welcome boxes include products from nearby producers, helping guests enjoy a real taste of the area while supporting independent businesses.
That includes Rowley Farm apple and pear juice made from fruit grown on the farm and bottled locally, Tyrrells crisps from Herefordshire, Oldfields Applefresco from Tenbury Wells and Ruby’s Fudge from Worcestershire.
Encouraging thoughtful countryside stays
We encourage guests to enjoy the countryside responsibly and leave no trace during their stay. Sharing practical countryside knowledge is part of what matters to us as farmers, and we want guests to leave with not just happy memories, but a better understanding of rural life too.
Continuing our sustainability journey
We know sustainability is not a finished job. We are always looking for ways to improve, invest in better solutions and keep reducing our environmental impact. Future plans include adding solar panels as another step in the journey.
